Massage has been used for physical and emotional wellbeing for millennia and involves the manipulation of soft body tissue including muscles. Our muscles contract and relax to enable us to move. They also define body shape, protect internal organs, stabilise joints during movement and help maintain posture.
Furthermore in recent scientific studies, it has been shown that massage is excellent for boosting our immune system and reducing stress levels. This is because stimulation of the skin, epidermis, myofascial web and soft tissue, all of which can be targeted in massage, has many positive impacts on both the body and mind.
INTUITIVE MASSAGE
Intuitive massage doesn’t follow a pattern nor use set techniques but instead is guided by you and your needs on the day and uses a variety of methods.
Massage pressure can be gentle or firm, with deeper remedial work where needed, and can be anything from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on your needs and the time available.
An hour is the minimum you can book, and you will need to allow an extra 15 minutes per booking for the session consultation and feedback afterwards (arrive at the time booked but allow an extra 15 minutes on top of the treatment time for estimating your time of departure).
As an indicative idea – although every treatment is tailored specifically to you – for a thorough ‘restorative’ massage, with plenty of time, please allow:
If there is significant physical pain / remedial work required, the times above could be doubled, or conversely a relaxing ‘light touch’ full body massage can be provided in 1.5 hours. If you’re not sure how long to book for, please contact me to discuss your current needs.
A standard treatment involves applying oil (sweet almond oil unless otherwise agreed) to the areas to be treated, as agreed with you, and focusing on different areas in turn. You will be significantly draped throughout, with an electric blanket beneath if required, and only the areas being worked on will be uncovered.
Alternatively you can choose to remain fully clothed throughout, to be seated instead of lying on the massage table, or to be treated on a floor mat instead. You are welcome to contact me in advance to discuss options or we can go through everything on the day.
I am beginning to incorporate some Shiatsu and Acupressure techniques, as I have recently started training in both, but this is entirely optional and would be agreed in advance. Contact me for further details.
I have been training in Acupressure since 2019 and love the additional benefits this ancient wisdom is bringing to my treatments. Acupressure involves treating specific points on the merdian system – which can be thought of as the energy lines that run all around the body.
The meridians are housed in the fascia, which is like an internal skin that covers all of our organs, muscles, tendons and even bones. Following the meridian lines, and using the meridian map to aid in both diagnosis and treatment is fascinating and evidently beneficial.
Book a combination treatment if you’d like to include acupressure with your massage or Reiki treatment.
Reiki is a healing therapy that originated in Japan. Through energetic recalibration, often felt as heat, the relaxation response is activated, enabling the body to restore itself at a very deep level. It improves overall wellbeing and is therefore highly recommended for stress reduction. It has been shown to help significantly with physical pain, and mental or emotional turmoil.
Suitable for everyone, and at all times, a Reiki treatment session lasts an hour. You remain fully clothed and lay flat on a massage table (under a blanket) but can choose to be seated in a chair if you prefer. The style I learnt was Usui lineage, via Phyllis Lei Furumoto who trained my master, John Cass, and involves hand placements on the body. I also offer handsfree options too for those who know or prefer that style.
Having started training in Reiki in 2008, I have developed my practice over the years – in conjunction with regular clients and other therapists – and have developed my own intuitive energy healing style.
To discuss whether Reiki, or Intuitive Energy Healing, would be right for you, simply contact me. Or book in at a time to suit you.
